I have been capturing video from a Cannon Vixia HF G10 to a Windows 10 computer with no issues. I got a new office computer (still windows 10), installed Premiere Pro CS6 and everything works fine for editing current projects. However, when I try to capture, I get the 'Capture Device Offline' message at the top of the F5 capture screen.

Using the Capture window, you can capture live video from DV camcorders, HDV camcorders, webcams, and WDM devices. Copy the captured clips to your hard drive.

I am using Adobe Premiere 1.5 I am getting the message 'capture device is offline' even though my JVC GR-DVL9600 is connected to my computer using cabling that has worked well previously, the camera is switched to 'play'. Strangely, the computer screen shows that the camera is being recognised by quoting its model number. I am able to capture perfectly fine using Media Express, however I would like to capture with Adobe Premiere Pro. How do I set up Adobe Premiere Pro to capture with my Intensity Shuttle? Everytime I try to capture it says 'capture device offline', however I go over to Media Express and it works fine. Set preferences, format and tracks. Select audio and video tracks to be recorded. Pick where files.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Turn on the webcam to capture live footage.
    • Connect the DV camcorder, HDV camcorder, or the WDM device to your computer using the FireWire (IEEE 1394) port.
  2. From the Add Media panel, select the option for the device using which you want to capture video:

    • DV Camcorder
    • HDV Camcorder
    • Webcam Or WDM

    The Capture window appears.

  3. In the Capturing Source menu, select the device from which you want to capture video clips. The video that the device captures is displayed in the panel below the Capturing Source menu.

  4. To specify a location for the video, do one of the following:

    • To save files to the default Adobe folder, leave the location as it appears in the dialog box.
    • To specify a different location, click Browse (Windows)/Choose (Mac OS) and choose a folder. Alternatively, click Make New Folder (Windows)/New Folder (Mac OS) to create and name a new folder.
  5. Browse to the location where you saved the video files and add them to the Quick view/Expert view timeline.

Note: You can also use Windows Explorer to locate the saved video files and drag them to Adobe Premiere Elements.

My capture doesnt work in Premiere Pro. When I plug my camcorder via the firewire cable (JVC GRD320E) then Windows Recognizes the camera at once, but when I enter Premiere it says:
'Capture Device Offline'
I tried lots of things - nothing works. I also started up Windows Movie Maker. In here I can capture if I manually press play on my camcorder - but the device-control buttons in wmm are not present (as they use to be).
I have no erros in my hardware device managers.
Hope someone can help me on this.
